South African hip-hop star and businessman Riky Rick has curated a platform where some of Mzansi’s brightest musicians perform a stripped-down version of their biggest hits.
Amapiano vocalist Ch’cco is the latest musician to “visit” The Yard, performing his viral hit Nkao Tempela featuring Pretoria-based DJ duo Mellow & Sleazy.
RIKY RICK’S ‘THE YARD’
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Riky Rick was unable to host his highly-anticipated Cotton Fest event in February this year. The Boss Zonke hitmaker brings together over 20 local acts for a music event in Johannesburg. Cotton Fest has welcomed thousands of attendees every year since 2018.
Thinking outside the box, Riky Rick presented The Yard to the world. The show sees Mzansi’s top musicians perform their biggest hits and has already featured the likes of AKA, Costa Titch, amapiano stars Daliwonga, Kwiish SA and Njelic.
Speaking to Drum, he shared that The Yard has already proven to be a success.
CH’CCO PERFORMS ‘NKAO TEMPELA’
Nkao Tempela has been Mzansi’s song of the summer. Mellow, Sleazy and Ch’cco’s hit also sparked a dance challenge on TikTok that has amassed over 65 million views.
Ch’cco featured on Riky Rick’s The Yard on Tuesday 28 December to perform the viral track. The amapiano star also performed two of his other collaborations, You My Baby featuring SheLovesKamo and Sharp featuring Kelvin Momo.

MZANSI SHOWS OFF THEIR ‘NKAO TEMPELA’ DANCE MOVES
While the dance challenge is doing extremely well on TikTok, it has also found its way to other social media platforms. A Twitter user danced along to the amapiano hit with their gogo while a group of friends puts their own spin on Nkao Tempela on the golf course.
One tweep wrote: “The South African urge to do the body roll when Nkao Tempela plays”.
“I love it when Nkao Tempela plays at groove. The whole cluub comes alive and starts dancing.”
