Taylor Swift eighth studio album, Folklore, was a surprise and caused fanfare among her millions of adoring social media followers.

The singer announced the news with this message: “Most of the things I had planned this summer didn’t end up happening, but there is something I hadn’t planned on that DID happen.

“And that thing is my eighth studio album, Folklore. Surprise,” she wrote, adding a smiling emoji.

“Tonight at midnight I’ll be releasing an entire brand new album of songs. I’ve poured all of my whims, dreams, fears, and musings into [this].”

Taylor Swift ‘Folklore’ a milestone

Swift is understandably overjoyed by this milestone achievement.

“Before this year I probably would’ve overthought when to release this music at the ‘perfect’ time. But the times we’re living in keep reminding me that nothing is guaranteed.

“My gut is telling me that if you make something you love, you should just put it out into the world. That’s the side of uncertainty I can get on board with. Love you guys so much.”

Going deluxe

Then Swift announced on Instagram that her new album would contain a bonus track.

“Folklore will have 16 songs on the standard edition, but the physical deluxe editions will include a bonus track called The Lakes.

“Because this is my eighth studio album, I made eight deluxe CD editions and eight deluxe vinyl editions … Each deluxe edition has unique covers, photos, and artwork.”

Music video

Swift also revealed she had recorded a music video for one of the album’s songs presumably during lockdown.

“The music video for Cardigan will premiere tonight, which I wrote/directed.

“The entire shoot was overseen by a medical inspector. Everyone wore masks, stayed away from each other, and I even did my own hair, makeup, and styling,” she wrote.

And it’s had quite a reaction. One fan expressed excitement in the comments section saying: “WHAT THE EXCUSE ME GOOD MORNING IM FREAKING OUT.”

Another wrote: “Oh my god Taylor thank you for saving our summer.”

While a third added: “YES YES YES. A MILLION TIMES. YES!!!!”
