‘FRAKSIE’: KYKNET’S NEW DRAMA SERIES

Louis Pretorius and Albert Snyman describe Fraksie as a series that is darker than their previous works. The 17-episode series is set in Stellenbosch, a South African town in the Western Cape.

“There are times that it is difficult to like some of the characters, but I hope the viewers will in the end grow to love them,” the creators said.

Award-winning actor Edwin van der Walt plays Schalk Smith, the lead character in Fraksie. Schalk is an investment manager who dreams of becoming a millionaire one day. He is married to Nina (played by Roeline Daneel) whose mother, Diedré (played by Hélène Truter) is from old money.

Nina’s father, Williem (played by André Jacobs), is an oncologist and her sister, Bianca (played by Daneel van der Walt), is an anaesthetist. Zac (played by Alex van Dyk) and Marie (played by Jana Jacobs) are Schalk and Nina’s children.

WHO ELSE STARS IN ‘FRAKSIE’?

Also set to appear in Fraksie are Marlo Minaar and Crystal Donna Roberts, who play Tim and Chantel in the new series.Trix Viviers, Sean Marco Vorster, Rizane Rossouw and Duane Williams.

‘WE SEE IT AS TWO MINI-SERIES’

Pretorius explained that the 17 episodes of Fraksie are aired as a series but he sees it as two mini-series. He added that he and his co-creator were pleased with the cast they put together.

“There are a number of productions filming in and around Cape Town at the moment and it was a challenge to cast the series, but I believe that we have a stellar cast.”

Fraksie is set to premiere on kykNet (DStv Channel 141) on 13 September at 20:00.
