Social media star and comedian Lesego Tlhabi, popularly known as Coconut Kelz, announced on social media this week that she will be starring in the Showmax Original series Tali’s Baby Diary.

Tali’s Baby Diary is a follow-up to the 2017 Showmax Original comedy series Tali’s Wedding Diary.

From the creators of Suzelle DIY, Tali’s Wedding Diary stars Julia Anastasopoulos as Tali, a Johannesburg princess who is on the road to the alter. At the time the series set the record for the most first-day views on Showmax. It was the most awarded comedy at the 2019 South African Film and Television Awards (Saftas).

Tali’s Baby Diary is set for release on 26 February on Showmax and follows Tali’s shift from Instagram influencer into a momfluencer as she prepares to have a baby.

Coconut Kelz makes a cameo in the trailer.

Since Elma Smit and Refiloe Mpakanyane exited the show, Coconut Kelz joined by Mo Flava and LootLove have taken their seats on the presenting panel of Trending SA season six.

Tlhabi said she manifested being a presenter on the show — when she was just a guest, she joked she would one day be back as a host. What she put into the universe found its way back to her.

“In early January I was on the show as a guest and being interviewed by the previous panel. At the end of the episode I jokingly said: ‘One day I will be back as the host’. Three weeks later it happened,” Tlhabi said, according to Sowetan.

“This was something that I specifically asked for, so I feel very excited. I did feel very nervous, but now that we are three episodes in I feel much more relaxed.”

Tlhabi studied theatre and drama at Brunel University in London. She worked behind the scenes in television after returning to SA. However, she has always wanted to be an actress.

As acting did not immediately happen, she created the alter ego Coconut Kelz, a self-loathing black woman. She posted comedic videos on her social media platforms which quickly gained popularity.

Tlhabi trended after making an appearance as Coconut Kelz on Carte Blanche, joining Devi Sankaree Govender as she expressed her bold personality.
