A sangoma, digital marketing student, tattoo artist and more… Meet the 18 ‘Big Brother Mzansi’ housemates competing for R2 million.

Big Brother Mzansi kicked off on Sunday 23 January and had Mzansi roaring with laughter and excitement. The highly-anticipated reality show welcomed 18 new housemates and South Africa has chosen a few favourites. 

Meet the 18 contestants on Big Brother Mzansi battling it out for R2 million.

TULANI ‘TULZ’ MADALA (28) 

Tulz is a voiceover artist and actor from East London. He describes himself as a “smooth-talking straight shooter”. The 28-year-old enjoys partying, cooking and spending time with family. 

THANDO ‘ACACIA’ MATI (30) 

Thando from Soweto describes herself as fun, loving, a free spirit and a risk-taker. She hopes to be relatable in the Big Brother Mzansi house and doesn’t want to be seen as a “slay queen”.

LUTHANDO ‘BU’ MTHEMBU (31) 

Luthando entered Big Brother Mzansi after a friend suggested the idea to him. The former research analyst loves meeting new people and says he’ll just be himself. 

RETHABILE ‘DINKYBLISS’ POTSANE (29) 

Rethabile is a businesswoman who describes herself as bold, ambitious and passionate. She loves socialising and connecting with new people. The 29-year-old says she’ll be bringing “hectic drama” to the house. 

GASHWAN ‘GASH1’ MTHOMBENI (28) 

Pretoria-based fashion designer Gashwan describes himself as artistic and says he has the ability to think outside the box. He entered Big Brother Mzansi with hopes to win the R2 million cash prize. 

LIBO NJOMBA (32) 

Information Technology (IT) graduate Libo says he is a “bit of a goofball”. He loves staying active by playing tennis. He entered the reality show to step outside of his comfort zone. 

MICHELLE ‘MPHOWABADIMO’ MVUNDLA (27) 

Michelle is a sangoma from Daveyton in Gauteng and says she’s always wanted to be a part of Big Brother Mzansi. The 27-year-old says she’ll just be herself in the house. 

MVELO NTULI (28) 

Marketing graduate Mvelo describes himself as loud, lovable and a lover of people. The 28-year-old, who is passionate about education, says there is a deeper side to him than just his humour. 

NALEDI ‘NALE’ MOGADIME (24) 

Naledi is a model and actor from Pretoria. The 24-year-old firecracker says she might not be everyone’s favourite person in the beginning but people warm up to her eventually. She says there will definitely be some flirting from her in the house but her fellow housemates shouldn’t take her too seriously… 

NORMAN NHLAPO (24)

Norman describes himself as a calm and warm family man. He runs a non-profit organisation and daycare with his mother. The 24-year-old says he is good at manipulating and reading people. 

KAMOGETSWE ‘QV’ MOTLHALE (24) 

Marketing communications graduate Keamogetswe is an easy-going, fun and free-spirited person. Viewers can expect her to be a straight-talking, “no-nonsense person”. 

UKHO ‘SIS TAMARA’ SAMELA (25)

Sia Tamara is a multifaceted person who identifies as gender non-conforming. The 25-year-old is bubbly and passionate about representation. 

GUGU ‘TERRY’ BONGA (26) 

Gugu describes herself as a class clown who wears her heart on her sleeve. The 26-year-old says viewers should expect good vibes and a good time from her. 

THATO MOKOENA (28) 

Thato is a TikToker who has created several dance challenges on the video-sharing app. She hopes to stand out in every way possible. 

THEMBA MABASO (30)

Johannesburg-based tattoo artist Themba is used to being the centre of attention. The 30-year-old is a creative who expresses himself through tattooing and singing. 

THOBEKA ‘VENUS’ MTSHALI (25) 

Thobeka is a budding musician who expressed herself through making beats and playing the piano. The 25-year-old aims to show her multi-layered personality in the Big Brother Mzansi house. 

YOLANDA ‘YOLI’ GLOVER (30)

Yoli is a performing arts teacher and psychology student from Durban. The 30-year-old is a good judge of character and her strategy to win the reality show is… to have no strategy. 

ADINDU ‘ZINO’ ASUZU (21)

Digital marketing student Zino is the youngest housemate in the reality show. The 21-year-old enjoys staying active by playing football and working out in the gym.
