Battle of the Giants All Styles DanceSport Festival celebrates 30 years!

Tap, Jazz, Ballet, Hip-Hop, Slow Dance and more will be performed at the three-day Battle of the Giants All Styles Dance Sport Festival.

Following a two-year break due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the prestigious Battle of the Giants All Styles DanceSport Festival (known as the BOTG) will be celebrating its 30th year at Sun City, North West between 21 and 24 April 2022. 

The exciting dance competition will host dance schools from across the country showing off their latest artistic styles and choreographed performances for local and international judges.

The internationally recognised event is organised and sanctioned by the South African Body of Dance (SABOD) and supported by DanceSport SA.  The BOTG is organised by Bev Wood, the President of the SABOD.

“This competition provides the dancers with an exciting opportunity to perform and showcase their talent at this internationally acclaimed venue of Sun City and we are grateful to them for their longstanding commitment and partnership of this event,” said Wood. 


This year there will be several dance styles performed at the BOTG. Hip-Hop, Modern, Show Dance, Slow Dance, Freestyle, Disco Dance, Popping, Break Dance, Street Dance, Tap, Ballet, Jazz and Latin and Ballroom will also be performed. 

A new section is being added to BOTG is an Open section for traditional dance styles like Pantsula, Gumboot, African, Bollywood, Sbujwa and Breaking Crews. 

Individual dancers will be able to compete for titles and prizes in this year’s competition which is also one of the qualifier events ahead of the World Trial Circuit programme. 

This year, there are two internationally renowned judges on the judging panel. Mitja Popovski from Ljubljana, Solevina and Samy Bӧhner from Graz Austria.

The three-day BOTG is set to take place between 21 and 24 April at the Sun City Resort in North West.
