Social grant payments have been left unsettled thanks to payment processor issues.

Many social grant recipients are still unsure about the future of their grant.

Here’s what to do if you couldn’t draw your grant and how to find out if the system is currently online.

SASSA Postbank delays

The South African website reported on the recent Postbank glitch which has negatively affected thousands of people who can’t draw their social grants.

The issue might be related to cards and their expiry dates, but there is no official answer.

While the issue has been admitted on the SASSA website, there appears to be no immediate solution to the problem.

Ask SASSA head office

The head office responds to all queries and complaints.

If you couldn’t draw your social grant because of a glitch, then head office might be able to tell you if the grant system is online (or not).

The South African website has a guide for where to contact your nearest regional office or head office.

Check: Is SASSA offline?

If you think the system might be offline, it’s better to check before heading to town and trying to withdraw the money.

The South African website also has another useful guide you can use to check if SASSA is offline.

DON’T use credit

Don’t use credit when you can’t access your social grant.

Loan sharks might be using the fact that systems are offline to promote their own business – but “loan sharks” are still illegal and unregistered loans providers.

If you are offered loans to withdraw your social grant (or to “get by” until the next payment date), it is your right to say no.
