‘Extremely hot’: Heatwave conditions persist in Western Cape

Heatwave conditions are expected in the Western Cape and Northern Cape as extremely hot temperatures have been forecast.

Heatwave conditions are expected in parts of the Western Cape and Northern Cape on Sunday, 11 February.

This is according to an advisory issued by the South African Weather Service (SAWS).

HEATWAVE CONDITIONS IN THE WESTERN CAPE

The weather service said extremely hot and uncomfortable conditions are expected over the Kamiesberg (Northern Cape), Matzikama, Cederberg and Bergrivier (Western Cape) municipalities on Sunday.

“Very hot to extremely hot and uncomfortable weather conditions are expected in places over the west coast of the Western and Northern Cape on Sunday. Day-time temperatures are expected to reach the high 30s and low 40s.

“Such weather conditions can result in health effects, and it’s essential to take the necessary precautions,” the weather service said.

HOW TO STAY COOL

As temperatures soar, staying cool becomes crucial. Here are some easy tips to help you handle the heatwave:

It is advised to hydrate often, and drinking water regularly throughout the day helps to prevent dehydration in the scorching heat.

2. Dress lightly

With the scorching heat, it is very necessary to dress light. Choose loose-fitting, light-coloured clothing to stay comfortable and cool under the blazing sun.
