Loyiso Nkohla a former ANCYL activist, gunned down in Phillipi

Warrant Officer, Joseph Swartbooi, said there are reports that two women and a man were also injured in the incident with Loyiso Nkohla.

The former politician Loyiso Nkohla was fatally shot in Phillipi Cape Town, together with Thembinkosi Phupha a former ANC councillor who was injured.

Loyiso Nkohla got killed inside the police station

It is alleged that the former Seskhona People’s Movement leader went to attend a meeting in the Police Station when a series of shots were fired and left 3 injured and only him dead.

According to Radio 786, Nyanga police are investigating cases of murder and attempted murder at Philippi Police Station. They found the body of 40-year-old Loyiso Nkohla at the scene, having sustained several gunshot wounds.

Police spokesperson, Warrant Officer, Joseph Swartbooi, said there are reports that two women and a man were also injured in the incident. They’ve since been transported to hospital for treatment. The unknown suspects fled the scene and are yet to be arrested. The motive for the attack is yet to be determined.

People empathised with Loyiso Nkohla and his family as the news made a wide spread in the social media. Mmusi Maimane posted on twitter “Crime in this country is truly out of control. Loyiso Nkohla was killed inside the police station.”

An account by @commutalgenus also remembered Nkohla as a true leader in the townships “What a dark day – I am truly shocked by the death of Loyiso Nkohla, a memorable and important activist who stood against the brutal conditions facing those in townships within the Western Cape today.”

Nkohla became well known in 2010, when he organized the “poo protests” in Cape Town, He had moved portable toilets from shanties and emptied their contents at significant sites all across the city, he said at the time, he was doing that to highlight the poor sanitation in informal settlements.
