ICYMI: Cape Town faces 18-hour water outage on Valentine’s Day

Planned maintenance by the City of Cape Town Water and Sanitation Directorate will result in an 18-hour water outage on Valentine’s Day.

Planned maintenance by the City of Cape Town Water and Sanitation Directorate will result in an 18-hour water outage on Wednesday, 14 February.

SUPPLY INTERRUPTION IN PARTS OF CAPE TOWN

The City of Cape Town said zero-pressure tests (ZPT) and conditional assessments will be done on the water supply network in the following areas:

Tuesday, 13 February 2024 from 09:00 until 16:00: Cherrywood Gardens, Roundhay, Lionviham, Kalamunda and Audas Estate in Bizweni (Somerset West).

Wednesday, 14 February 2024 from 09:00 until 16:00: Somerset Ridge, Westridge and Audas Estate in Bizweni (Somerset West).

Thursday, 15 February 2024 from 09:00 until 16:00: Polkadraai (Blackheath) and Claremont.

Friday, 23 February 2024 from 10:00 until 16:00: Westlake Industrial area.

18-HOUR WATER OUTAGE IN PARTS OF CAPE TOWN

The City of Cape Town said maintenance work, including pipe and valve installations, repairs and replacements will result in water supply disruption to these areas: 

Brackenfell – The maintenance team will be replacing a 400mm diameter meter insert on the Brackenfell pipeline from 10:00 until 15:00 on Tuesday, 13 February. The local reservoirs supplying the area will be filled up in advance and no impact is anticipated for the residents. This notice is merely as a precautionary measure.

Thornton and Grand West – The maintenance team will be doing repairs to the scour valve as well as replacing a meter insert on the 535mm diameter pipeline in Thornton from 10:00 on Wednesday, 14 February overnight until 04:00 on Thursday, 15 February. The water supply will be shut off during this period to enable the work to be done safely.

Residents are requested to store sufficient water for domestic use. In addition, water tankers will be made available to supply water for domestic use where required.
