Here is more good news for Cape Town! It has been named a top travel destination for Indian travellers for next year.

The Mother City was listed by the Times of India as one of the world’s most beautiful cities to visit.

The publication produced a list of cities Indian travellers should consider visiting in 2024.

CAPE TOWN

Cape Town was listed as a top travel destination for Indian travellers to visit next year.

Coming in third on the list of preferred destinations, behind Japan’s Kyoto and Florence in Italy, Cape Town is considered to be a highly attractive holiday spot.

TRAVEL HOTSPOT

The City of Cape Town is often in the news, for its exceptional tourist offerings.

It has long been considered a bucket-list destination by many citizens from across the world.

INDIAN TOURISTS

India is a country with huge potential for SA’s tourism sector.

The BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa) member state has a burgeoning economy with a fast-growing population that is well-educated and enjoying higher standards of living.

Indian nationals are eager to explore the world but face red tape due to entry-visa requirements faced by Indian passport holders.

FLIGHTS

There are currently no direct flights connecting South Africa with India.

South African Airways previously operated scheduled flights between Johannesburg and Mumbai but these were scrapped several years ago.

Privately-owned Jet Airways, which started up services between the two countries also axed its flights after some time.  Awarding of the airline’s rights to operate these scheduled flights also raised questions.

BRICS STATES

At the BRICS conference held in Sandton this year it was announced that member states would strengthen air connectivity between states.

Incumbent member Saudi Arabia introduced flights into Johannesburg at the beginning of this month.

Moreover, this comes after it added South Africa to its list of nationalities eligible for e-visas.

This effectively eases entry requirements for SA nationals.

EASED ENTRY

SA is the only African nation that was added to Saudi Arabia’s list of nationalities that can apply for visas through electronic processes.

Therefore, for SA to take advantage of increased tourist flows from the Indian subcontinent it must look at operating flights to India as well as easing entry restrictions for Indian passport holders.
