Cape Town Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis has applauded the Western Cape High Courts decision to issue an urgent interdict against Santaco and the taxi strike violence. On Monday, the city joined Golden Arrow in seeking a contempt order against Santaco and the taxi strike violence as an applicant. According to the order, no person, vehicle, taxi, or driver may hinder, interfere with, or block any vehicle on public route within the city. The interdict further prohibits any person from interfering with the operations of any transportation depot. The judge handling the matter pleaded with the parties involved to resolve the situation speedily. In a statement penned by the City of Cape Town, Hill-Lewis said: “we call on Santaco to stop the violence immediately and return peacefully to the negotiation table.”
