SUMMARY:

In light of the Anti-Homosexuality Bill, Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) Member of Parliament Naledi Mpungose has blasted Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni, saying he should read to find out about the sexuality of Africans before colonialism boldly claiming ancestors were gay.

The party held a picket outside the Ugandan Embassy in Pretoria, on Tuesday, 4 April calling for Museveni not to sign the Bill into law. On 21 March, the Ugandan Parliament overwhelmingly passed the Anti-Homosexuality Bill, 2023 and under the bill’s provisions, a person who publicly identifies as LGBTIQ+ could face 20 years in prison. Furthermore, when responding to a person who commented on her post, the EFF member took it a step further and said ancestors were gay.
