SNOW of more than 10cm is expected TODAY in these parts of South Africa. According to VoxWeather forecaster Annette Botha said a mid-winter cut-off low would bring widespread showers, a steep drop in temperatures, and SNOW across the country. On Wednesday morning, light snow mixed with some showers from expected in the Free State, around Bloemfontein, and over the mountains around Ficksburg, Clarens, and surrounding areas. She furthermore said SIGNIFICANT snow of more than 10cm is likely on Wednesday over Lesotho and the southern Drakensberg continuing into Thursday morning.
Snowfalls in the Underberg can occur anywhere from May through to October. The highest recorded snowfall in the area and, therefore, possibly the best time to go in search of snow is in August. Situated a mere 40kms from Underberg, Sani Pass is a great snow spot to explore, with the first winter snowfall having fallen there in late May this year. Be advised though, that you need a 4 x 4 to drive up the pass.
