The Department of Social Development (DSD) and the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) met with the South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) on 23 September 2023, in the evening. One of the topics discussed was the delay in the payment of grants. The specifics of the switching “glitches” Post Bank faced. As well as the crucial question of whether those switching glitches will affect the October social grant payments. The Commission said that although it appreciated that SASSA had promptly deposited grants into the beneficiaries bank accounts, recipients approached these institutions to create bank accounts because SASSA has a contractual arrangement with a number of them. The Commission will speak with Post Bank to discuss the issue of unpaid grant payments related to September 2023. As well as, more crucially, the readiness of Post Bank with regard to the payments in October 2023.
