Lawrence Faucette, the second person to ever receive a transplanted pig’s heart died on 31 October at the age of 58. This comes six weeks after this highly experimental surgery which was performed by Maryland, United States doctors, AP News reported. According to the publication, Lawrence Faucette received the genetically modified pig heart on 20 September as his health was rapidly already declining. Bartley P. Griffith, MD, the surgeon who performed Faucette’s transplant at the University of Maryland Medical Center (UMMC) said Faucette was a remarkable patient, scientist, Navy veteran, and family man who just wanted a little more time to spend with his loved ones.
