The new petrol and diesel prices for August 2023 took effect last week – and it wasn’t good news for South Africa’s motorists. Sadly, the latest numbers from the Central Energy Fund (CEF) don’t paint a pretty picture for September 2023 either. Below, the latest projections as received by The South African website from the CEF, effective Friday, 4 August 2023. Petrol 93 increase of 112 cents, Petrol 95 increase of 115 cents, Diesel 0.05% increase of 243 cents, Diesel 0.005% increase of 242 cents and Illuminating Paraffin increase of 228 cents. If these market conditions were to remain consistent for the remainder of the month – an unlikely scenario with the rand/dollar exchange rate ever fluctuating and the oil price changing – an increase of 112 cents is expected for petrol 93 octane motorists and an increase of 115 cents for 95 users.
