South Africa’s Department of Health is taking significant steps to bolster its immunisation efforts. It’s injecting R3.5 billion into the expansion of the vaccine program. Health Minister, Joe Phaahla, unveiled this ambitious plan during a media briefing held in Centurion, following discussions with Health MECs. Despite South Africa’s robust childhood vaccination program, the nation has been grappling with recurring outbreaks of vaccine-preventable diseases. In response to this ongoing challenge, the Department of Health is set to augment the existing vaccination regime with new vaccines designed to improve coverage and efficacy.
