SUMMARY:

Five people have been killed in the multiple vehicle pile-up on the N3 near Hilton in KwaZulu-Natal that happened on Monday, 10 April. The fatalities were confirmed by KwaZulu-Natal Department of Transport spokesperson, Kwanele Ncalane. As previously reported by The South African, traffic came at a standstill in both the North and South bound on the N3 between Hilton and Cedara following the multi-vehicle crash.

In an interview on Newzroom Afrika, Ncalane said the pile-up involved 22 light motor vehicles, 5 trucks and 8 minibus taxies. Ncalane said the Johannesburg bound lane is closed while the Durban bound lane is also affected as it is used for emergency services and recoveries. Some emergency services have been able to make their way to the N3 which has seen an increase in accidents in the past year alone. This is a developing story. The South African will provide more information as soon as it becomes available
