Nearly five months after a deadly blaze gutted Usindiso Building in Marshalltown, one suspect has been arrested after he made a confession under oath at the Usindiso Commission of Inquiry. Gauteng police have confirmed that the 29-year-old man admitted to setting the hijacked building on fire on the morning of 31 August 2023, claiming the lives of 76 people while scores others remain displaced. The suspect is expected to appear before the Johannesburg Magistrates Court soon, where he will face charges or arson, 76 counts of murder and 120 counts of attempted murder. The suspect had been in an argument with his friend, which turn violent and beat his friend to death.
