According to police, a fire at a building in South Africa’s largest city Johannesburg has claimed at least 73 lives. The Johannesburg fire, which started in the middle of the night, caused 55 further injuries, according to officials. The building that caught fire in the heart of Joburg on Thursday had been converted into an informal settlement containing at least 80 shacks. Because of the combustible materials utilized, the fire swiftly spread to several levels of the structure, according to Robert Mulaudzi, a spokesperson for Johannesburg Emergency Management Services (EMS). Early on Thursday, a fire broke out in a building in the heart of Johannesburg, leaving numerous people injured and dead.
