Capacity Vs Demand in schools has been one of the challenges faced by the Gauteng Education Department amid the 2024 Grade 1 and 8 Online Admission Placement period. A total of 226 085 Grade 1 and 8 learners for 2024 have been admitted to an array of government schools across the province since the commencement of the placement period. However, some schools were much favoured by parents compared to the others. During the media briefing on Monday, MEC Matome Chiloane cited that before the commencement of the placement period, the Department conducted a capacity audit at all schools to ensure that available capacity at all schools optimally accommodates applicants.
