The Gauteng Legislature Portfolio Committee on Community Safety and the Education Committee paid an unannounced visit to Eldorado Park Secondary School on Tuesday and in a twisted coincidence, a learner was stabbed at the school. The joint oversight visit was part of the Committees’ Focus Intervention Study (FIS) on assessing the effectiveness of school safety interventions in fighting violence and crime in schools. The learner was allegedly stabbed by an intruder, who fled the scene after the incident, which the school principal and management were in a meeting with the provincial government officials. Masuku added that the stabbing highlights the scourge of violence and criminality that exists in some Gauteng schools.
