The Economic Freedom Fighters says it feels vindicated in part by the Eastern Cape High Court’s exposing of what it(the EFF) describes as Magistrate Twanet Olivier’s laziness and judicial incompetence. On Monday, the High Court overturned Walter Sisulu University Sibongile Mani’s five year prison sentence to a suspended sentence. Mani had erroneously received R14million from the National Student Financial Aid Scheme, into her student account instead of R1400 meal allowance. Then went onto a three day shopping spree, spending nearly R800 000 on clothes, designer handbags, shoes and expensive alcohol. Olivier, presiding at the East London Regional Court, handed Mani direct prison sentence.
