The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued a Yellow Level 1 warning for damaging waves in the Western Cape and Northern Cape. The warning is valid from Tuesday, 8 August until Thursday, 10 August. The weather service said South-westerly swell of 4 – 4.5m with a period of 15 seconds is expected along the coast between Alexander Bay and Cape Agulhas from Tuesday evening, 8 August, spreading to Plettenberg Bay on Wednesday morning, 9 August while subsiding on Thursday, 10 August. POSSIBLE IMPACTS: Difficulty in navigation at sea for small vessels and personal watercraft (e.g. kayaks) are expected. Localised disruption of small harbours and/or a ports could also occur. Small vessels are at risk of taking on water and capsizing in a locality. Localised disruption to beachfront activities is also possible.
