The latest police crime stats have painted a gruesome picture of the current murder trends in the country with nearly 7000 in just 90 days. This is according to the second quarter crime stats released by Police minister Bheki Cele on Friday. In the three months between July and September this year, 6945 people were killed which equates to 77 murders daily. Compared to the same period last year, it is a slight drop from 7004, a difference of 59. Gauteng recorded highest number of murders with 1625 people killed, 46 more deaths than the same period last year. It is closely followed by KwaZulu-Natal despite a drop of 254 murders, with 1603 reported. While the Eastern Cape comes third with 1312. 3106 of the 6945 murders were as a result of a firearm.
