Two children aged five and nine along with an adult male were burnt beyond recognition when their shack caught fire in Mamelodi, Gauteng.  The incident happened at Transit Camp in Mamelodi Extension 18 in Tshwane, at approximately 01:35 on Wednesday, 12 July 2023. Tshwane Emergency Services Department spokesperson Deputy Chief Charles Mabaso said firefighters arrived on the scene to find an informal dwelling of about three rooms completely burned down.  Members of the public reported that three people were believed to be inside the dwelling when the fire was discovered.Following the incident, the City of Tshwane has appealed to residents to make sure that all candles are placed in a safe candle holder and has pleaded with residents to avoid overloading electrical plugs.
