This November, developers of the new Cape Winelands Airport has already begun the process of obtaining environmental approval for the transformation and expansion of the airport, reports Cape Town Etc. This is part of the first phase of the transformation of the airport, estimated to cost R7 billion. This phase involves repositioning the main runway with a 01-19 orientation and a length of 3 500m. It will also include the construction of a passenger terminal designed to accommodate 5.2 million annual passengers, Bizcommunity says. The airport, previously known as the Fisantekraal Airfield, was owned by the South African Air Force but then acquired by South African billionaire, Rob Hersov in 2021.
