After recent news that the City of Cape Town has been awarded eight Blue Flags for beaches, the City has now revealed that these beaches were recently tested for water quality and the results registered were excellent. According to a statement from the City, visitors to Cape Town beaches can be confident that Coastal Water Quality guidelines are being met and monitored on an ongoing basis. Water samples were analysed by an external accredited laboratory – the SABS Lab – for the number of enterococci per 100ml, the Gold Standard for water quality analysis. In addition to these eight, two other beaches, namely Mnandi and Strandfontein, have also been awarded Pilot blue flag status.
