African National Congress (ANC) Secretary-General Fikile Mbalula recently conceded that the party has been guilty of protecting “wrongdoing.” Speaking from a media briefing in Johannesburg, Mbalula indicated the newly appointed integrity commission would better hold members accountable. According to News24, Mbalula said the ANC could no longer protect wrongdoing. “We have been through shielding and protecting each other, but now we have mechanisms in place as a party to deal with wrongdoing should anyone of us be implicated.”.
Mbalula reportedly met with the new Integrity Commission and asked members to speak with the ANC’s top leadership, the National Executive Committee (NEC) and the nation at large about the integrity issues facing South Africa..
