Transport Minister Sindisiwe Chikunga says those behind the torching of trucks are committing an act of economic sabotage. This comes as at least 15 trucks have been torched in separate incidents in KwaZulu-Natal, Limpopo, Gauteng and Mpumalanga in less than seven days. Chikunga said the incidents are criminality that will not be tolerated as the country’s road network is the lifeblood of its economy and transports valuable cargo that keeps the wheels of the economy turning. ‘’The ability of trucks to transport freight is an enabler of economic activity and trade with other markets, which is critical for our economy, as the road freight transports in excess of 80% of all our cargo,” the minister said..
