Ronwen Williams was named the best goalkeeper at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon), which concluded on Sunday evening. Ivory Coast defeated Nigeria 2-1 to be crowned the new Afcon champions. Williams was Bafana’s best player at the Afcon, making crucial saves to help Bafana Bafana reach the semi-finals of the competition for the first time in 24 years. The Mamelodi Sundowns inspired his nation to the semi-finals of the tournament after producing four saves against Cape Verde in a shootout last week. On Saturday, he also made a penalty save to help Bafana finish third at the Afcon. Williams beat Nigeria’s Stanley Nwabali to win the Golden Glove. The Bafana captain only conceded three goals at the tournament.
