President Cyril Ramaphosa has taken a decisive step in South Africa’s democratic process by officially declaring the 29 of May as Election Day.

Following consultations with the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC), President Ramaphosa’s proclamation solidifies the timeline. It sets the stage for the nation’s next pivotal electoral event.

“This follows consultation by the President with the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC). The proclamation on the election date has been published in the Government Gazette of Friday, 23 February 2024,” the Presidency said in a statement.
