Disaster teams in all KwaZulu-Natal municipalities likely to be affected by severe thunderstorms on Thursday are on high alert.

The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued a yellow level 2 warning for severe thunderstorms.

In the alert, the weather service said damaging winds, excessive lightning, hail, and heavy downpours would accompany the severe thunderstorms.

The weather phenomena may damage infrastructure in the northern parts of the province and midlands of uMgungundlovu.
