Eskom, South Africa’s power utility, has announced a temporary reduction in load shedding to Stage 1, scheduled to take effect on Wednesday at 10:00. This decision comes as welcome news for many South Africans, coinciding with Bafana Bafana’s highly anticipated Afcon semi-final match against Nigeria. The power utility attributed the drop in load shedding stages to sufficient emergency reserves and a slight increase in available generation capacity, resulting from the return to service of two units. On Wednesday, Eskom highlighted in its statement that it would reduce load shedding to Stage 1 until 14:00. After this time, Stage 2 load shedding will resume until further notice.
