Five National Parks to visit in South Africa this summer

Kruger National Park

Located in the Limpopo and Mpumalanga provinces of South Africa and known for its incredible biodiversity, Kruger is one of the largest game reserves in Africa. Visitors can spot the “Big Five” (lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, and rhinoceros) and enjoy a variety of ecosystems, including savannahs, woodlands, and rivers.

Mountain Zebra National Park

The Eastern Cape’s Mountain Zebra National Park is primarily known for its efforts in the conservation of the Cape mountain zebra, a species of zebra that is native to South Africa. In addition to this though, the park is home to various other wildlife species, including buffalo, black rhinoceros, various antelope species, and a variety of bird species.

Addo Elephant National Park

As the third-largest national park in South Africa, the Eastern Cape’s Addo Elephant Park is famous for its large elephant population. Visitors can also observe other wildlife, such as lions, buffalo, and a variety of antelope species.

Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park

This Northern Cape transfrontier park shares its borders with Botswana and is known for its stunning red sand dunes and desert-adapted wildlife, including lions, cheetahs, and gemsbok. A great spot for a summer safari.

Hluhluwe-iMfolozi Park

Although not technically a SANParks national park, the Hluhluwe-iMfolozi park is renowned for its efforts in rhino conservation and is home to both black and white rhinoceros. Hluhluwe-iMfolozi Park also boasts diverse landscapes, including hills, rivers, and grasslands. Visitors can enjoy game drives to spot a wide variety of wildlife.
