If you need your gaming fix this week, look no further than the Epic Games Store. There are two free games up for grabs this week again, Nuclear Costume and RUINER.

Last week’s free offerings were Costume Quest and SOMA. If this week’s offerings are not your cup of tea, then wait it out until next week for The Messenger.

Available from Epic Games – 7 to 14 November

Nuclear Costume

This post-apocalyptic “rogue-like top-down shooter” was developed and published by Vlambeer back in December 2015. It’s an action RPG suitable for players 10 years of age and older.

You’ll need to fight your way through the post-apocalyptic wastelands, but hey, you’ll have powerful weaponry as you make your way to the Nuclear Throne.

Look, you’re not going to lose hours of your life playing Nuclear Throne, but hey, it’s good for a quick gaming fix every once in a while. And most importantly, it’s free. For now.

RUINER

Please note, this game is not suitable for younger gamers and the game trailer contains mature content only recommended for ages 18+.

RUINER – which was developed by Reikon Games and published by Devolver Digital in 2017 – is described as a “brutal action shooter” set in the year 2091, in the cyber metropolis Rengkok.

“A wired psychopath lashes out against a corrupt system to uncover the truth and retrieve his kidnapped brother under the guidance of a secretive hacker friend.”

You will have all manner of high-tech firearms and other weapons at your disposal. Brutal is not an understatement. Prepare for violent confrontation and lots of killing.

Previous Epic Games deals

Costume Quest

Developed and published by Double Fine Productions, Costume Quest usually retails for R60. The role-playing game (RPG) is described as a Halloween adventure in which your hero trick-and-treats beautiful environments.

Award-winning veteran Tim Schafer worked on the development of Costume Quest, and it shows. Schafer is dedicated to making high quality games with emphasis on originality and, most importantly, fun.

SOMA

Developed and published by Frictional Games, SOMA is a sci-fi horror game with an “unsettling story about identity, consciousness, and what it means to be human”. If you forget to download it this week, you’d be able to still purchase the game from the Epic Store for R195.

“The radio is dead, food is running out, and the machines have started to think they are people. Underwater facility PATHOS-II has suffered intolerable isolation and you’re going to have to make some tough decisions. What makes sense? What is left to fight for?”
