It’s an emotional start to Smackdown Live tonight as the 11 bell salute gets us started. A throwback to the events of 2001 when Smackdown became the first public gathering post 9-11.
Speaking of America…It’s Nak-America time, but first the charismatic enigma cuts a promo on both Shunsuke and his opponent for this Sunday, Randy Orton. Jeff promises us he will go to the extreme against the Viper. Uh-oh.
United States Champion Shinsuke Nakamura vs Jeff Hardy
Result: Jeff Hardy wins via DQ after Randy Orton attacks…from outta nowhere! Randy continues the attack until Hardy turns it around and beats Orton down with a chair.
Backstage we get an interview with Miz and Maryse. Maryze has great line about Daniel Bryan taking 3 years to return, while she only needed 5 months…after giving birth! Great stuff!
We get a look back to earlier in the day when AJ Styles arrived to the arena. He’s sitting in an empty arena reflecting on his relationship and rivalry with Samoa Joe.
Smackdown Women’s Champion Charlotte vs Sonya DeVille
Result: Charlotte wins via submission when Sonya taps to the Figure Eight. Charlotte celebrates with the fans until she’s attacked by an undercover Becky. She’s been disguised as a member of the WWE universe this whole time.
The New Day join the commentary team with their own pancake laden table, and we get a pre recorded skit with Kofi Kingston pretending to be a news journalist hyping the upcoming number 1 contenders match.
No:1 Contendership for the Smackdown Tag Team Titles: Rusev Day vs The Bar
Result: Rusev Day win after a Rusev pins Sheamus following a super kick. Aiden English saved Rusev from a Brogue kick to setup the win.
F-A-B-U-LOUS …Carmella is out next, and she moonwalks and raps her way down to the ring along with R-Truth, he’s in action next. (PS, this pairing of Mella and Truth is MONEY!)
R-Truth with Carmella vs Andrade “Cien” Alamas with Zelina Vega
Result: Alams wins a quick match with a reverse roll-up. These four have potential together.
Backstage interview with Asuka and Naomi, Naomi ask why Asuka helped her last week. Asuka says the ICONIICS are mean, and she can’t understand what they are saying. Hah. Rest of the promo is awkward.
It’s main event time, and Maryse comes down to the ring to her old music, yes!
Maryse with The Miz vs Brie Bella with Daniel Bryan
Result: Brie Bella wins via DQ win the Miz pulls her out our the ring. It’s a lot of messing about between the two couples and the match never really happens. Miz gets Daniel Bryan to accidentally take our Brie Bella. Brie recovers and then proceeds to blow a DDT spot with Maryse’s French Kiss finisher. Terrible. Brie is just terrible. Mercifully Daniel Bryan distracts the crowd with some Yes kicks to Miz, and gets the crowd to chant yes to end the show.
