Twitter praises Andy Murray for correcting journalist’s casual sexism [video]

Andy Murray might have crashed out of Wimbledon, but he was still up for fighting the good fight in his post-match press conference.

A journalist asked about Sam Querrey, who knocked him out, being “the first US player to reach a major semi-final since 2009″.

Murray  replies: “Male player.”
“I beg your pardon,” the reporter responded.
“Male player,” Murray repeated.

Murray was, of course, referring to Serena Williams, who has won 12 Grand Slam tournaments since 2009.

And that’s just one of the Willaims sisters.

Venus, a Wimbledon semi-finalist last year and this year, and a finalist at the Australian Open in January.

But the Williams sisters aren’t the only US players to have reached major semi-finals. CoCo Vandeweghe, Madison Keys and Sloane Stephens all achieved the feat.
