The South African is led to believe that former Kaizer Chiefs defender Erick Mathoho could be unveiled by DStv Premiership side, TS Galaxy in the next few days.

Mathoho left Chiefs last month and it seems he has already found a new football home just before the start of the 2023/24 season.

Speaking to several sources close to Mathoho, The South African discovered that Mathoho’s new football home is a closely guarded secret.

Just this week, this publication spoke to Mathoho’s close friends at Sekhukhune United but they made it clear that the towering defender was not training with Brandon Truter’s outfit.

The Venda-speaking central defender spent more than a decade at Naturena since joining from the now-defunct Bloemfontein Celtic and he could be headed for a new home in Mpumalanga.

As a senior player at Chiefs, Mathoho was starved of game time under demoted coach Arthur Zwane and the fans also expressed displeasure, saying the club didn’t respect him.

They felt that he should have been given a chance to play his last game against Cape Town City in the final match of the past term to say his goodbye to them.

“Yes, there is an update on Mathoho. He has signed with a new club but I must respect the club and wait for them to announce it,” said a source to The South African.

“We can speak later this afternoon but like I am saying, we must wait for his new club to do the honourable thing.”

Another high-ranking informant within the Rockets camp, Galaxy refused to give an update on Mathoho, saying he has a tight schedule and he is heading to a meeting.

“Look, the issue with Mathoho can be discussed with his agent because he has not signed for Galaxy. I would tell you right away had we signed him,” said the source to the South African.

“Give me a call this afternoon but you can get the news from his agent.”

The fact that Mathoho was previously represented by Galaxy chairman, Tim Sukazi before his affairs were taken care of by Basia Michaels of Quality Talent Sports, means it is highly likely that he will turn for the Mbombela-based side next season.

At the same time, his former Chiefs teammate Bernard Parker is also enjoying his football there after leaving Amakhosi at the start of the previous campaign.

Together with goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune, Mathoho was Chiefs’ longest-serving player after joining the Soweto giants in 2012 as a 22-year-old from Phunya Sele Sele.
