Monte Carlo disappointment behind him

Djokovic is 16-2 this season in matches on the ATP Tour securing the Adelaide 1 title ahead of his historic tenth Australian Open championship.

He suffered a hamstring tear early in the season, playing through the injury to win the year’s first major in an impressive feat.

Having missed two Grand Slams last year, Djokovic was clearly motivated to make an excellent start to the season.

Djokovic’ missed out on the Sunshine Double after once again butting heads with officials over his COVID-19 vaccination status.

The world no 1 is hopeful of competing in the rest of the season in full with the US set to lift their vaccine mandate.

His return to action in Monte Carlo last week was cut short when he suffered defeat to Lorenzo Musetti in tricky conditions.

Novak Djokovic came through a testing encounter with French teenager Luca Van Assche and will go on to face either another compatriot in Dusan Lajovic or Frenchman Gregoire Barrere in the last eight in Banja Luka.
