Lloyd Harris stays hot with win in Dubai, faces Dominic Thiem next

South Africa’s top-ranked ATP Tour player, Lloyd Harris, kept his impressive 2021 form going with victory in round one of the Dubai ATP tournament.

South Africa’s top-ranked ATP Tour player, Lloyd Harris, kept his impressive 2021 form alive with victory over Australia’s Christopher O’Connell in the first round of the Dubai ATP tournament on Monday.

Harris, who had to qualify for the main draw, came back from a set down to beat his fellow qualifier 6-7 (5/7), 6-4, 6-1.

Lloyd Harris, who hails from Cape Town, entered the tournament ranked 81st in the world.

The 24-year-old will now face top-seeded Austrian Dominic Thiem in the second round.

Last week Lloyd Harris claimed the biggest win of his career when he toppled Switzerland’s Stan Wawrinka in the opening round at the Qatar Open in Doha, but lost in the second round to Hungary’s Marton Fucsovics.
