Lloyd Harris beaten by big-serving American in Toronto

South African tennis ace Lloyd Harris saw his run at the ATP Toronto Masters come to an end in cruel fashion in the third round on Thursday.

South African tennis ace Lloyd Harris saw his run at the ATP Toronto Masters come to an end in cruel fashion in the third round on Thursday.

Harris, who beat Canadian qualifier Brayden Schnur 6-3, 6-2 in his first round match and then Spanish ‘lucky loser’ Feliciano Lopez 6-2, 6-3 in Round 2, lost to big-serving American Reilly Opelka 4-6, 7-6 (8/6), 7-6 (7/4) in a marathon clash which lasted 2 hours and 47 minutes.

Both men served an incredible 21 aces in what was their first ATP-level meeting.

Opelka continued his dream run in Toronto which has seen him already eliminate Nick Kyrgios and Grigor Dimitrov.

Opelka, who stands a giant 2.11m, will play Spanish 10th seed Roberto Bautista-Agut in the quarter-finals while it’s back to the drawing board for 24-year-old Capetonian Lloyd Harris ahead of the US Open which starts in New York on 30 August.
