SuperSport United coach Hunt on keeper’s early retirement

SuperSport United keeper George Chigova faces the possibility of early retirement and coach Gavin Hunt gives an explanation.

SuperSport United coach Gavin Hunt has explained the possibility of seeing his keeper George Chigova facing the possibility fo early retirement.

The South African has gathered that the Zimbabwean keeper has been diagnosed with a heart-related problem and might hang up his gloves.

However, Hunt could not confirm the keper Chigova’s early retirment as yet, saying SuperSport doctors will have to advise the club on the way forward.

SUPERSPORT COACH HUNT ON KEEPER’S EARLY RETIREMENT POSSIBILITY

The seasoned mentor who has coached Bidvest Wits and Kaizer Chiefs, Hunt said he has not been told what could keeper Chigova’s problem yet.

Moreover, he added that he is aware that the former Polokwane City net minder has a problem but the club is working hard to solve it.

“I am not told and I don’t have the full details as yet. I am not a doctor but I know there is a problem we are trying to solve,” said Hunt.

“We will know in a week or so. For now, George will be sidelined for two weeks and he will not do anything.

“We wll see after that but it doesn’t look good. We will support him with everything in our power.”

Meanwhile, this publication reported that SuperSport have signed veteran keeper Washington Arubi who joined from Marumo Gallants.

This comes as Chigova struggled for regular game time as Hunt preferred Ricardo Goss who was on loan from Mamelodi Sundowns.

Having also parted ways with Boalefa Pule, it seems SuperSport are now said to be preparing for the worst as Chigova’s future remains undecided.

STRIKER SPEAKS AMID KEEPER’S EARLY RETIREMENT TALK

Still on SuperSport news, The South African reported that the 22-year-old Sundowns hitman, Etiosa Ighodaro will spend the rest of the 2023/24 DStv Premiership campaign under Hunt.

Ighodaro believes he is ready to play for the reigning league champions in the near future but he understands why he is loaned out to the Tshwane rivals.

“It’s not my decision to be loaned out. I would love to play for Sundowns and that is still my dream,” said Ighodaro on his future.
