Will Desiree Ellis risk Banyana’s ‘breadwinner’ for Argentina game?

Banyana Banyana key player Hildah Magaia has been declared fit to play against Argentina in a crucial World Cup clash on Friday morning.

Magaia, known as the ‘breadwinner’ scored Banyana’s goal during their 2-1 loss against Sweden on Sunday. After scoring the opener in the second half, the striker limped off and fans were worried that the 28-year-old would miss her team’s next games.

SA women’s national soccer team coach Desiree Ellis could not confirm if her star player would start against Argentina.

“When Hildah gets in front of goal, 9 times out of 10 she will put in the back of the net and we saw that in the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.

Banyana star fit to face Argentina

“She’s very influential and versatile and can play in front of the front three and even though sometimes she starts from the left side, she can drift to the centre. But we don’t concentrate on one player because everyone in our team can score and we pride ourselves on teamwork,” Ellis told the media as quoted by Goal,com.

WORLD CUP GROUP G PERMUTATIONS:

A defeat for Banyana and a draw between Italy and Sweden will see Desiree Ellis’s charges out of the tournament after only two games.

A win for Banyana and Sweden on Friday will put the South Africans in second, needing potentially a draw in their final game against the Italians.
