According to widespread reports, Cassius Mailula is on the brink of switching Mamelodi Sundowns for MLS outfit Toronto FC. That means a battle with Lionel Messi isn’t far off.

Mailula and Messi both facing uphill tasks in MLS
News broke on Monday via the Sundowns official website that Mailula was signing for an unnamed North American club. Since then, iDiski Times reports have identified that club as Toronto FC. Although it’s a Canadian city, Toronto operates in the MLS Eastern Conference, as does Inter Miami.
Toronto are currently second from bottom in the MLS Eastern Conference and could be overtaken by rock-bottom Inter Miami who have two games in hand. With Lionel Messi on their books, they’ll fancy their chances of climbing up the table.

Although there’s no promotion or relegation in the USA top-flight, battles at the basement should be intense and competitive. Toronto face Inter Miami on September 21st, which is a date to put in the diary for sure, because we could well see Messi and Mailula share a pitch.
