West Ham United’s hopes of signing Harry Maguire from Manchester United were dealt a massive blow after their bid was rejected.

Maguire has fallen down the pecking order under United boss Erik ten Hag and made only 16 Premier League appearances last season. The Dutch coach has preferred to play with Lisandro Martinez, Raphael Varane, and Victor Lindelof in central defence. On a few occasions, he had to convert left-back Luke Shaw into centre-back to avoid playing Maguire.

Manchester United kick-off their new season against Wolves next month. Ten Hag has made a few signings this pre-season, including former Chelsea Mason Mount and Andre Onana, who replaces David de Gea.
