Former Bafana Bafana midfielder Thulani Serero has been linked with Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns since he became a free agent.

The 33-year-old parted ways with his UAE club Al Jazira after four years at the club.

Serero finds himself without a club during pre-season but a player of his caliber has many options.

Chiefs are reportedly leading the race to sign the former Ajax Cape Town man but Serero comes with a hefty price tag that might be too much for Amakhosi. The Soweto giants have so far recruited close to 10 players ahead of the new season.

Serero to Chiefs highly unlikely

What Chiefs are lacking, Seroro can provide and might be their missing piece, especially in the middle of the park. With Khama Billiat set to leave the Soweto club, the Chiefs might find themselves without a playmaker or attacker who can give the team flair and confidence going forward.

Serero can solve their toothless attack but can Chiefs afford to pay the star R25 million a year?

Sundowns, on the other hand, might be able to afford the former Ajax Amsterdam man. The Brazilians have depth in their squad and are unlikely to sign Cream unless if are looking for a top player to rotate Themba Zwane with. Serero has past his peak and won’t be as effective to Rulani Mokwena’s team in 2023, so his signing with Downs won’t make total sense as he is not guaranteed game-time.

According to reports, the star is on the radar of Pitso Mosimane’s new club Al Wahda in UAE. The Arab club will have no problem coughing out the R23 million to bring Serero to Al Wahda.
