Mamelodi Sundowns hand star midfielder a new two-year deal

Local media reports reveal that midfielder Sphelele Mkhulise has signed a new two-year deal with Mamelodi Sundowns.

Following lengthy discussions between the club and his representatives, Mamelodi Sundowns have handed star midfielder Sphelele Mkhulise a new two-year deal.

The hard-working and one of the technically gifted midfielders, Mkhulise has been handed a new two-year deal and will stay at Sundowns until June 2026.

Media reports surfaced on Wednesday that the man also known as ‘The Blesser’, Mkhulise is expected to be key with the Brazilians next season.

SUNDOWNS HAND MIDFIELDER WITH A TWO-YEAR DEAL

The Pietermaritzburg-born midfielder, Mkhulise’s existing contract was set to expire on Friday at the end of June but Sundowns decided to bless him.

According to a football publication, a source has revealed that the Sundowns technical team led by coach Rulani Mokwena believes in the nippy Bafana Bafana midfielder, Mkhulise.

Since graduating from the junior ranks at the Tshwane giants, Sundowns, and having been sent out on a number of loan stints, Mkhulise has shown great development as he remained key for the club over the past few seasons.

“The coach loves him and as long as Rulani Mokwena is there, we knew that Mkhulise will remain with the team,” said a Siya source.

“He has now signed a two-year contract which comes with a one-year extension option. This means he can be with the team until June 2026.

“He had done well for the team and as I said, the coach and the technical team believe in him. It’s also good for the player because he has been loyal to the club since he joined as a young boy from the development.

“It’s good to see him continue with his career with Sundowns.”

While Sundowns have managed to defend their DStv Premiership title and scooped their sixth in a row, they could not go all the way to the final of the CAF Champions – they exited in the semi-finals.

The 27-year-old industrious midfielder, Mkhulise featured in 30 matches in all competitions for Sundowns and found his name on the scoresheet on two occasions in the past term.

DEFENDER RUSHINE DE REUCK EXTENDS STAY AT SUNDOWNS

Mkhulise’s new contract comes after that of gifted defender Rushine De Recuk who extended his deal earlier this month.

The South African reported that Sundowns have secured the services of a key defender for three more years according to local media reports.

Formerly on the books of Maritzburg United, De Reuck has finally extended his contract at the Brazilians after lengthy negotiations.

De Reuck joined the Brazilians in 2021 from the Team of Choice and has since made 68 appearances for the reigning league champions.

“Mamelodi Sundowns have come to an agreement with defender Rushine De Reuck on a new three-year deal.” an IdiskiTimes report read.

“iDiski Times understands that talks have been ongoing since last year and with the South Africa international widely considered one of the best defenders in the country.

“Management made it a priority to tie him down seeing him as an integral member of the squad.”
