Orlando Pirates will head into this weekend’s Soweto Derby full of confidence following this weekend’s results.

The emotions in the camps of the Soweto Derby participants could not be different at the moment.

Soweto Derby: Pirates are the form side

The Sea Robbers took their chances this weekend to move to third on the table following a 2-1 win over a Maritzburg United. A great build up ahead of the Soweto Derby considering they did it without their head coach. It was a scrappy win over Buccaneers’ trainer Fadlu Davids and one that helped them make it four wins from five league outings.

The Soweto Derby kicks off at 15:30 on Saturday, 25 February.

Orlando Pirates will start Saturday’s Soweto Derby just two points off of SuperSport United, who could only draw against Royal AM on the road.

Kaizer Chiefs, on the other hand, slumped to a 3-2 home defeat against Golden Arrows after a late double by Knox Mutizwa.

The loss means that their form guide heading into the Soweto Derby includes one league win from their last five.

And more concerning ahead of the Soweto derby was Chiefs coach Arthur Zwane’s post-match comments.

Chiefs gave it away, says Zwane

“Look, we gave the game away, an easy game for me, you look at the number of chances we created first-half, you look at the goals, how we conceded the goals as well,” Zwane told SuperSport TV.

“I mean we were just flat, actually we were playing in patches but whenever we were going forward we looked dangerous but did not take our chances.

“Actually we created enough chances to win this game and could have defended better, unfortunately we did not take those chances. But yes, it’s part of the game but can’t falter the performance of the boys,” he continued.
